Brexit Sonnet No. 146 – ‘The Day That Never Came’

This is now the day that never came,
The day that promised much, and more besides.
A day of dreams we’d not remain the same,
And where more unites us than divides.
But fantastical fibs meant not a blooming thing,
And now the stage is set, rehearsals done,
And actors to their words and notes do cling,
Whilst critics to their chattering columns run.
So on this day that never went to plan,
Reflect, revoking all you’ve heard and seen,
And push this day along as best you can;
Brexit - live not your special hellish dream.
On this day, and all the days to come,
Deal not in halves or holes – remain as one.
